At Home Remedy for Canker Sore/Mouth Sore Caused by Brace
Share
New to the life of wearing braces? I know it's painful: your jaw is painful; your teeth are painful and everything feels wrong! What's worst is it's more likely to have canker sores!
Braces can cause canker sores because the brackets, bands, and wires can rub against the inside of the mouth, causing irritation and injury to the soft tissue. The constant rubbing can create small cuts or abrasions on the inside of the mouth, which can then become canker sores.
The pain can range from a mild, burning sensation to a severe, stabbing pain. Eating and speaking can be difficult, and the sore can make the inside of the mouth feel raw and tender. The constant rubbing of braces can also make the sores hard to heal, as the braces can keep reopening the sore, causing it to linger on for a longer period. Additionally, the sore can also cause difficulty eating as it can cause pain when biting or chewing food, and also can make it hard to talk as it can cause pain while speaking.
Here are some at home remedies for the new braces wearers:
Coconut oil: Coconut oil can help to alleviate the symptoms of mouth sores by reducing inflammation and promoting healing. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has antimicrobial properties that can help to fight off bacteria and viruses that may contribute to the development of mouth sores. (see research in 2019) It is also a natural moisturizer and may help to soothe dry, cracked, and irritated skin.
Chamomile: Chamomile contains compounds called bisabolol and chamazulene which have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties (research in 2009). These compounds may help to soothe pain and reduce inflammation associated with canker sores caused by braces.
Tea tree abstract: It reduces inflammation and fighting off bacteria and viruses that may contribute to the development of canker sores. Tea tree abstract also has a soothing effect on the skin, which help to reduce pain and discomfort.
Vitamin B. According to a 2009 study, participants taking 1,000 micrograms of vitamin B12 daily had fewer canker sore outbreaks, fewer sores overall, and less pain than those taking a placebo.
